For many kids, the only consistent source of food they have is the meals they receive Monday through Friday at school.
United Way’s Backpack Program fights to end childhood hunger in our community by providing bags of food in students’ backpacks to get them through the weekend.
A donation of just $7 provides one bag of food. One bag provides a child with six meals (two breakfasts, two lunches, and two dinners), two snacks, and two drinks.
Every year in August, we hold the "Pack the Backpack" food drive event at select grocery stores in the community. This is our largest food drive for the program. Volunteers join our small staff at the locations and help hand out lists of Backpack Program-friendly items. Customers can purchase items from the list and then donate them to our staff at the exit!
You can also host a food drive with friends, family, and co-workers any time throughout the school year. Items can be dropped off at our office during business hours or we can pick the items up!
All items help get the Backpack Program and the school year off to a great start!
